Read this before you buy: The chart shows the R-value of this insulation. R means resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. Compare insulation R-values before you buy. There are other factors to consider. The amount of insulation you need depends mainly on the climate where you live. Also, your fuel savings from insulation will depend on climate, the type and size of your house, the amount of insulation already in your house, and your fuel use patterns and family size. If you buy too much insulation, it will cost you more than what you'll save on fuel. To get the marked R-value, it is essential that this insulation be installed properly.

Test specimen H is a conventional 2 x 4 stud wall section constructed according to ASTM C 1224-03 with the exception of vinyl siding on the exterior side. This specimen consists of 7/16 OSB sheeting, 2x4 studs, ? dryvall. Microvent is used as a continuous house wrap over the OSB attached with 5/16 staples. NO other INSULATION is installed. White vinyl siding installed over the MicroVent. This specimen was then tested in a manner to determine the whole wall thermal resistance using ASTM C 1363

Post Frame Applications
Installed in the wall and roof of post frame buildings, MicroVent solves the two most critical issues, which are heat gain/loss and condensation control

Metal Building Retrofit Application
MicroVent is commonly installed with new buildings, but it may also be installed in existing buildings to the underside of the purlins. MicroVent insulation helps to make the interior more comfortable, and will not cause condesation issues. MicroVent is ideal for meal buildings because the material resists abuse during and after installation. It is also preferred for this application because it looks great and hides unsightly purlins

(Radiant barriers installed in this manner must be perforated MicroVent™ to prevent moisture from being trapped in the mass insulation. In areas where dust accumulation would be an issue, it should be noted that the emmitance of the top surface of the radiant barrier would be degraded, reducing the thermal performance of the radiant barrier.)

Radiant Barriers do not have an R value since the R-value for reflectivity cannot be measured.  However, radiant barriers can be tested as part of an assembly where the R-value can be observed and measured.  In this case, the R-value can be achieved when the radiant insulation is installed as tested.  R-values cannot be estimated based upon different installation methods.
